Breaking satire
Yesterday, The Onion was on point early with an Alberto Gonzales man-on-the-street piece. Plenty of folks in stand-up comedy will have a couple of jokes at the ready regarding recent news, but they typically don’t have to deliver them until 8:00 p.m. at the earliest. Getting even three jokes together, as The Onion did, very shortly after news breaks, is a bit of a challenge. The Onion had that posted by noon. I didn’t see exactly when it went up.
Maybe it sends people to read the real breaking news, too. I’d be curious to find out how many people subscribe to The Onion’s RSS feeds — and how many of those folks also subscribe to newsy feeds. But definitely not curious enough to go out and start, you know, asking people.
So, uh. How’s it going with you?
